2015: Why Nigerians may face bleak year
APC Lambast President Goodluck Jonathan for Being Hypocritical
The All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday, lambasted President Goodluck Jonathan for being hypocritical by urging Nigerians not to sow the seeds of discord or hatred saying that the members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, were preaching hatred among Nigerians.
The National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who made this known in a statement in Lagos, said that Jonathan should lead by example instead of engaging in mere rhetoric, pointing out that ‘’talk becomes cheap the moment words lose their meanings.’’
Mohammed said that President Jonathan’s exhortations at a Christmas service in Abuja Thursday would have carried weight if the President had acted in such a way that his compatriots would not doubt his sincerity, wondering how the President could admonish others to avoid sowing the seeds of discord and hatred through their utterances when that was ‘’exactly the stock in trade of his political associates, supporters and spokespersons.’’
The statement further read, ‘’Everything that the President’s political associates, supporters and spokespersons have done has been geared toward creating division among Nigerians and sowing the seeds of discord and hatred, and the President is not on record as having ever called them to order.
‘’Recently, Chief Edwin Clark, a die-hard supporter of the President, said glibly that if the opposition has its way it can poison or kill President Jonathan just to take power. No statement could be more absurd and incendiary, yet the President never called him to order.
‘’Another dyed-in-the-wool supporter of the President, Mujaheed Asari Dokubo, said on national television that there will be blood on the streets if President Jonathan is not re-elected in 2015. He also said we will not take any prisoner of war. It will be total battle, but the President never uttered a word to rebuke him.

PDP IN PANIC
Prof. Yemi Osinbajo
According to The Nation, the presidency were previously building its campaign against the All Progressives Congress (APC), based on the following points:
1. If the APC goes for a Moslem-Moslem ticket, the ruling party will brand the rivals as insensitive to Nigeria’s glaring religious divides;
2. A Southwest candidate will make it difficult for the PDP to win the zone’s sympathy. The APC chose has picked a son in-law of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who is revered even beyond the zone.
Therefore the ruling party got puzzled with the emergence of Osinbajo, whose “impeccable” personality crushed both plans, it was learnt.
The PDP allegedly planned to use religious factor for the 2015 presidential campaign, however now they have to come up with a new idea.
It was gathered from the sources that the PDP tops had to get back to the drawing board.
According to one of the sources,
“There was gloom in PDP on Wednesday, following the announcement of Osinbajo. The calculation was that APC will be plunged into a crisis on the choice of its running mate, but that was not the case.

“The PDP had been looking for a slight mistake to brand APC a religious party after it could not sustain the bigot stigma on Gen. Buhari. Some attack dogs were on standby to hit the APC. All the plans have now failed.”
Another source narrated how the PDP wanted to use Awolowo’s name for campaign prosperity.
“By picking Osinbajo, the chances of PDP in the South-West have become slimmer because the party had wanted to take advantage of the political dynasty of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo to make an inroad into the region.
“The Presidency had tried to accommodate the grand son of the late sage, Mr. Segun Awolowo by making him the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council(NEPC).
“But APC has also made the late Awolowo’s son-in-law as its vice-presidential candidate putting paid to any scheming by the PDP in the Southwest.”
One more source confirmed the information:
“With the emergence of Osinbajo , the PDP has returned to the drawing board. The ruling party is now left to base its campaign on issues than sentiments.”
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, was contacted on the issue. The official did not sound worried however.
“Who is Osinbajo? He was an ordinary commissioner and we have hundreds of commissioners in the country. The APC vice- presidential candidate is an unknown individual in politics. He is not a threat to PDP.
“One thing I know is that if it comes to issues and performance we will win the 2015 presidential election but if it comes to throwing anarchy or chaos, the APC will have upper hand.”
Buhari, after announcing Osinbajo as his running mate, said that “he [Osinbajo - Naij.com] is a man of impeccable integrity”.

2015: Ex-Minister, Ortom, Tears Benue APC Apart
The primary elections of the two leading parties in Benue State, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, may have come and gone, but the fallout of that process has certainly left sour taste in the mouths of most of the aspirants in the APC.The APC in the state is in turmoil and the reason for this may not be far fetched. Virtually all the aspirants who lost out in that contest are crying foul and even going as far as threatening to sabotage whatever chances the party may have in the forthcoming general elections.Their anger arose from the fact that a former Minister of State in the Ministry of Trade and Investment, Dr. Samuel Ortom, was allegedly foisted on the party, as its governorship candidate, by the leaders of the party in the state.Ortom, who, until some weeks ago, was a leading member of the ruling PDP, was compelled to jump ship after losing out at the party’s governorship primary in Makurdi. His defection to the APC was somewhat a welcome development for the leaders of the party in the state, especially the Senate Minority Leader, Senator George Akume, who saw in him a candidate with the clout to galvanize the party in it’s quest to occupy the Benue Government House come 2015.*OrtomHence, the APC leadership wasted no time in anointing him as the flag bearer of the party irrespective of the position of other gubernatorial aspirants who saw the decision as an attitude of superiority manifested and displayed in an overbearing manner.Understandably, their agitation arose from the fact that they had, over a long period, traversed the entire state drumming support for their candidacy with the ultimate belief that having done the needful, the choice of who takes over the platform as flag bearer would be left in the hands of party faithful who, through APC’s laid down rules, would decide the fate of the aspirants.
